Well, dear readers, it has been a week.
Last weekend we started off to a family summer camp situation in the mountains - one that we had planned for for many, many months. However, it was not to be. On just the second morning of camp, two of my sons got very ill and started vomiting profusely. Not knowing if we all were about to go down (and with only one bathroom in a tiny cabin!), we decided to just head back home. I’ll spare you the details of the horrid drive home but know that it involved traffic, twisty turns, lots of trash bags and prayer. We made it though. And we made it just in time to hear of the passing of my husband’s grandmother, whom he was very close to.
Needless to say, nobody else got sick (thank the Lord!) and we are assuming what hit the boys was a bad case of food poisoning. They still are a little touch and go, but slowly starting to feel better.
Anyway, with all that drama happening it felt like sort of a wash of a week. Some weeks just are, aren’t they? Here are some things though that made my list:
The very best black bean recipe I have found. And it uses canned beans! I have been making big batches every week. Highly recommend.
Still reading the mystery novels. I am on the third now! I have to take a break though because I need to read the book that’s required for my book club that meets in a few weeks. I started this morning and it’s quite good.
This matcha! I’ve tried so many and this is the very best. I drink it daily.
Like I mentioned last week, we have been eating more plant based lately. I actually did a Whole30 last spring and ended it just feeling sort of grossed out by the amount of meat and grease I seemed to consume. It got so terribly hot here and felt like right time to focus on lighter fare. We’ve been eating a lot of beans, veggies, pasta and tofu. It has been great!
So many people have asked about the rainbow striped dress I’ve been wearing on Instagram. In case you missed the link, here it is again. It looks as though most of the sizes are sold out, except in petit. However, it is on sale and I wouldn’t hesitate to get the other colors. The linen is excellent quality and it’s all I want to wear right now in this heat!
I’ve also done a fair share of school planning this week while it was mellow in the house. Perhaps I’ll write another post just on this. We educate using the Charlotte Mason method, which relies on tons of quality books. This year I’ll have a 5th grader, 3rd grader and 1st grader. We actually started our new school year in April and then took a big break. We are starting back up whenever we get bored enough, or hot enough - likely at the beginning of August.
So sorry about your trip being cut short—we’ve also had to head home with a couple of kids with food poisoning before. Not fun!
Are you guys using the CMEC this year? I’d love a school planning post 🤓
